Jason’s journey: triumph over tragedy

Published:

On April 6th, Jason’s life changed forever. What started as an ordinary day of window cleaning turned into a devastating accident when he was electrocuted by a 33,000-volt overhead power cable. Despite not making direct contact, the high voltage arced, sending a powerful electrical current through Jason’s carbon-fibre water-fed pole. The impact catapulted him metres away, knocking him unconscious and leaving his shoes blown off by the force.

20 major surgeries

Jason was airlifted to Southmead Hospital, where he underwent an emergency amputation of his left forearm and was placed in a sedated state in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Over the following weeks, he fought for his life, enduring a staggering 20 major surgeries, including the removal of five toes and significant tissue damage to both legs, leaving him unable to walk. Doctors closely monitored his internal organs, particularly his kidneys, while he battled infections and life-threatening blood clots.

Throughout this unimaginable ordeal, Jason’s unwavering spirit never faded. A devoted husband and father to identical twin toddlers and a seven-year-old daughter, he remained determined to stay strong for his family.

As Jason slowly recovered, he reflected on the exceptional care he received at Southmead Hospital and felt compelled to give back. In a remarkable act of gratitude, he chose to donate a portion of the funds raised through GoFundMe to support the hospital that saved his life. A portion of the funds will also go to The Wiltshire Air Ambulance and the rest towards his rehabilitation and care that isn’t available through the NHS.

Giving Back to Southmead

“I decided to allocate a portion of the funds raised through GoFundMe to Southmead Hospital as a heartfelt way to give back to the incredible team who saved my life,” Jason explains. “Following my electrocution, I received exceptional care from the staff at Southmead, whose expertise, compassion, and unwavering support were instrumental in my recovery.”

“From the moment I arrived, the medical team worked tirelessly to stabilise me during my time in ICU and provide the life-saving treatment I desperately needed. Their ongoing aftercare has been equally phenomenal, ensuring I have had the best possible chance to heal both physically and emotionally. The dedication and kindness shown by the nurses, doctors, and rehabilitation specialists have left a lasting impact on me and my family, and I now want to help ensure that others in similar situations receive the same outstanding level of care.”

“I hope the funds can be used to invest in advanced equipment, innovative research, and vital resources to help other patients facing life-altering injuries.”

Jason’s donation is more than just a gift – it’s a testament to his gratitude and resilience, ensuring others receive the same outstanding treatment and support in their time of need.

Jason’s story is one of immense courage, perseverance, and an inspiring determination to turn tragedy into a force for good. We are incredibly thankful for his support and the trust he has placed in Southmead Hospital.
